Solar loans and EMI: compare the complete repayment—not the first EMI

Understand down payment, interest, subsidy timing, prepayment and total ownership cash flow.

Updated By · Corporate solar guidance

A low starting EMI can hide a long tenure, processing cost or subsidy-timing assumption. Compare the loan sanction and amortisation schedule with the project payment schedule.

SEE HOW IT WORKS

The concept, made visible.

01

Build the funding bridge

List down payment, bank disbursement, customer milestone payments and the expected subsidy credit in date order. Ensure the installer can be paid without depending on an unguaranteed release date.

02

Read the sanction—not the advertisement

Check whether the rate is fixed or floating, how it resets, processing charges, security, insurance, moratorium treatment, prepayment terms and penal charges. Compare total rupees repaid, not only EMI.

03

Decide what subsidy will do

Ask whether later credit reduces outstanding principal, EMI or tenure. A principal prepayment usually changes future interest; the bank’s actual policy and schedule govern the result.

04

Stress-test affordability

Run a delayed subsidy case, a lower generation case and a tariff assumption that does not rise aggressively. Household finance should remain comfortable even when optimistic timing does not occur.
